The gricken is the guardian of all hippies and homesteaders. Part chicken, goat, it is a productive and noble champion of productivity and the good life. The females are referred to as hennies and the males, roolies.
Apparently I wasn’t done with awkward randomly-generated gryphons. First set is here. This batch:
- Hoatzin + babirusa
- Willow ptarmigan + Iberian lynx
- Wompoo fruit dove + naked mole rat
- Fire-tufted barbet + Sunda pangolin
- Bateleur eagle + klipspringer
So I have a list of birds, a list of mammals, and random.org — that means randomly generated gryphons!. People still like those, right? These are, from top to bottom:
- Eastern rosella + red kangaroo
- Greater adjutant stork + Asiatic wild ass
- Nene + ratel
If it’s not obvious, my selection criteria for assembling the lists from which these critters were drawn was basically “has an amusing name”.
The Griffin yarn bowl. This has been underglazed in orange, blues and greens and the bowl is glazed in purple and blues. This item was a custom order and for anyone loving mythical creatures it can be remade to order. It is £85GBP +P&P and can be ordered via earthwoolfire.etsy.com or by firstname.lastname@example.org
(PS I love the hell outta Kyle T. Webster's natural inkbrush; I've overused it by now but I can't stop, it feels just like being able to shade with pencil to me)
Ooooh some derptastic anatomy goin’ on here… those front legs, and pretty much the whole cheetah half, which does not look anything like a cheetah but more like how I draw Ayden’s stocky jaguar butt just stretched… geh
In any case, you may remember James the gryphon from way back in 2011. His butt apparently looked more like a cheetah’s back then. I wanted to try out tardigrad ‘s brush set, so I dug his old scrap off of the hard drive to color.
Pretty happy with the bird half, not remotely happy with the back. More or less was using just one of the brushes; very interesting experience, I look forward to playing with them more.
